Gion matsuri for stragglers

Since I was on vacation in America, I couldn’t see Gion matsuri on the 17th of July.  However, this year, for the first time in many years, Kyoto split the parade into two parts.  I missed all the biggest picturesque floats on the first day, but I got to see the less impressive floats on the 24th.

I stood at the corner of Shijo and Kiyamachi streets, which is near the Shijo bridge.  The parade passed over the bridge on its way to Yasaka Shrine.  I could see the Minamiza kabuki theater from my place in the crowd…
